Philosophy
Recently I wrote a personal manifesto based around reduction, minimal art and ecology. It was called delete after the same key that one would find on a standard keyboard. The basic premise of this manifesto was to remind me always to deal with the function of communication first whilst paying the utmost respect to materials. The design aesthetic emerges after this. (See my home page www.paulglennon.co.uk.)

Concept and reference points
This piece was a celebration of my manifesto in the form of an installation. One simply walks into an empty room and finds a table with one computer key in the middle. When pressed, from somewhere the dictionary definition is played at full volume. There are many links to minimal artists such as Joe Kosuth - but also Gavin Turks’ ‘The Cave’, John Pawson’s book ‘Minimal’ and John Maeda’s book ‘Simplicity’.

Testing
This piece has only been devised through a mocked-up solution. Much craft is needed in the ‘key in the desk’ part of the work and how it connects to the sound. In the meantime the visuals show how it functions and will assist me when crafting materials in the workshop.

Direction
Ideally this piece will be a small solution that will fit into a large room as an installation piece. Consideration of simple materials will be important for transportation of the work.
