But what is the sound of one hand clapping?

I first read this in the opening pages of J. D. Salinger’s ‘For Esmé ~ with Love
and Squalor and other stories’. I have been asking people what they think it
means for years. During this module I have started to realise that seeking
an answer to this question is just as important as the answer itself.

(However - perhaps silence is a sound and as such can be as
beautiful as any other sound that we are used to hearing.)
